Introduction

RILEY GREEN HONORS TRAVIS TRITT WITH HEARTFELT COVER OF “DRIFT OFF TO DREAM”
Country star Riley Green is tipping his hat to one of the genre’s true legends. The Alabama native recently shared a soulful clip of himself performing Travis Tritt’s 1991 classic “Drift Off To Dream,” delighting fans who appreciate Green’s commitment to traditional country roots.
“What a song,” Green captioned the video, adding hashtags like #countrymusic, #weouthere, and #classic — a nod to the song’s timeless legacy. His stripped-down performance highlights the gentle romance and poetic simplicity that made “Drift Off To Dream” one of Tritt’s earliest signature hits.
Released as the final single from Tritt’s debut album Country Club, “Drift Off To Dream” was co-written by Tritt and Stewart Harris. The track became Tritt’s third Top 5 hit and remains a fan favorite more than three decades later. Green’s reverent cover underscores his deep respect for the artists who paved the way for him.
Riley Green Continues His Traditional Country Path
Green is enjoying success of his own with his current Top 20 hit, “Worst Way,” boosted by a widely praised video. But the singer isn’t slowing down — he recently debuted another new track, “Cowboy As It Gets,” a song inspired by the men in his own family.

“I always thought my daddy was a cowboy in a way,” Green shared in an interview with Whiskey Riff. “I always thought my grandaddy was a cowboy. Anybody that worked hard, used their hands, wasn’t scared to say what they believe and stand up for what they believe was a cowboy to me.”
Since breaking out with “There Was This Girl” in 2018, Green has built a reputation for staying true to classic country values. He often reflects on his journey, admitting he would tell his younger self to worry less about sports and spend more time writing songs and honing his craft on guitar.
“I’ve had a great career to this point and I’ve got a lot of opportunity coming up,” he says. “So I don’t know if I’d change too much.”
“Worst Way” appears on Green’s current album ** Don’t Mind If I Do ** — a collection he describes as stylistically diverse, balancing tender moments like “Jesus Saves” with radio-ready tracks like his latest hit.
And while the album spans a wide emotional range, Green’s cover of “Drift Off To Dream” proves that at heart, he remains a student of the classics — and an artist determined to honor the country greats who shaped him.
