Travis Tritt and Post Malone Bring Down the House with “T-R-O-U-B-L-E” at Opry 100: A Live Celebration

Country legend Travis Tritt joined forces with global superstar Post Malone for an electrifying performance of Tritt’s 1992 hit “T-R-O-U-B-L-E” during NBC’s Opry 100: A Live Celebration, broadcast live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on Wednesday night.

The unexpected collaboration turned out to be one of the most talked-about moments of the evening, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Grand Ole Opry with a high-energy performance that had the audience dancing, clapping, and singing along.

A First Meeting That Left an Impression

Before taking the stage, Tritt spoke with Country Now on the Opry 100 red carpet and opened up about meeting Post Malone for the first time — and what impressed him most about the genre-blending artist.

“I never had met Post until today. And we met just before the rehearsal,” Tritt revealed. “Two things about him impressed me. First of all, he’s one of the most respectful young men I’ve ever met. He says, ‘yes, sir’ and ‘no, sir’ every single time he says a sentence, showing respect, which I think is wonderful. Second of all, the love that he has for country music just exudes out of him.”

Clearly moved by Malone’s genuine appreciation for the genre, Tritt added, “And what more could you ask for than to be part of such a special night with people that absolutely love country music and the tradition behind it.”

A Show-Stopping Performance

When the lights dimmed and the opening guitar riff of “T-R-O-U-B-L-E” rang out, the Opry crowd erupted. Together, Tritt and Malone delivered a fiery rendition of the classic track, trading verses and harmonizing through the chorus:

“But mama never told me ’bout nothin’ like Y-O-U
Bet your mama must’ve been another good-lookin’ honey too
Hey, good L-double-O-K-I-N-G
Well, I smell T-R-O-U-B-L-E.”

Fans were seen on their feet — cheering, clapping, and singing every word — as the two stars brought undeniable energy to the historic stage.

A Full-Circle Moment for Travis Tritt

The Opry holds a special place in Tritt’s heart. He shared that when he first came to Nashville in the late 1980s, he never imagined he’d one day become a member.

“When I first came to Nashville, I always dreamed of being a part of the Grand Ole Opry,” he recalled. “I never thought they would let me in because I had long hair and wore a lot of leather and I was a little bit different.”

That dream came true on February 29, 1992, when Tritt was officially inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry, less than a year after his debut performance on May 4, 1991.

A Star-Studded Celebration of Country Music

Opry 100: A Live Celebration featured some of the biggest names in country music honoring the Opry’s century-long legacy. The lineup included Alan Jackson, Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Blake Shelton, Carly Pearce, Vince Gill, and many more.

The event took place across two legendary venues — the Grand Ole Opry House and Ryman Auditorium — blending past and present in a powerful tribute to country music’s enduring spirit.
