Watch: Scotty McCreery's Son Pays Adorable Tribute To George Strait | iHeartCountry Radio

Scotty McCreery recently delighted fans with an adorable glimpse into his family life, showcasing his young son, Avery, already following in his father’s footsteps as a country music enthusiast. On Thursday, March 13, McCreery shared a heartwarming audio clip on Instagram that quickly drew “precious” and “cutest” comments from his followers. Though Avery isn’t visible in the video, his sweet voice is clearly heard singing along to a George Strait classic. When McCreery playfully asked, “Who sings that song?” Avery’s confident reply, “George Strait,” confirmed his early appreciation for the King of Country.

Avery, whose full name is Merrick Avery McCreery, was born on October 24, 2022, to Scotty and his wife, Gabi McCreery. Weighing in at 7 lbs, 13 oz, Avery, named in tribute to Gabi’s father, Merrick (Tre) Dugal III, instantly captured his parents’ hearts. McCreery shared at the time that he had “never known a love like this.”

It’s no surprise that Avery is gravitating towards George Strait, given his dad’s well-documented admiration for the legend. McCreery’s 2021 hit, “Damn Strait,” was penned as a direct homage to the iconic artist. Last year, during an appearance on the Biscuits & Jam podcast with Southern Living Editor-in-Chief Sid Evans, McCreery articulated his deep respect for Strait, stating, “George is the King for a reason.”

McCreery elaborated on Strait’s enduring appeal, noting, “I think George had a way of having a song for everybody.” He described Strait as “everybody’s country singer,” capable of providing a soundtrack for every emotion and occasion, from sadness to dancing. McCreery, whose own love story with Gabi began in elementary school, finds personal resonance in songs like “Check Yes or No.” He believes that “everybody has a George Strait song that they can listen to, and be like, ‘Man, that sounds like me. That’s our story.’” For McCreery, this universal connection is the hallmark of a truly great artist and a genuine country storyteller.
