Written by Tristan Tritt and Brad Wagner—who also handled production—“Wannabe” bridges classic southern storytelling with a modern rock edge. The song dives deep into questions of self-discovery, family legacy, and personal evolution, all layered over gritty guitar tones and rich vocal emotion.
Speaking about the song’s inspiration, Tristan explained,
“I wanted to blend an honest discussion with myself about who I am and where I come from, while also sprinkling a bit of Greek mythology behind it. There’s a special place in my heart for the relationship between a father and his son.”
He went on to share that the track drew creative parallels from Homer’s Odyssey and the Cohen Brothers’ classic film O Brother, Where Art Thou?, which famously reinterpreted the ancient tale.
“Icarus came to mind,” he added. “It’s about finding balance between ambition and humility, and that’s something I’ve been learning through my own musical journey.”

“For years I immersed myself in 90s alt-rock,” Tristan reflected. “But I always felt something missing. I’m a proud southerner, raised on bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blackberry Smoke, and I’ve been inspired by new acts like Treaty Oak Revival and Dexter and the Moon Rocks. With this new music, I wanted to honor both the old-school rebels and the modern trailblazers.”
