Carrie Underwood to Headline Providence College’s 2025 Late Night Madness

Providence, R.I. — When country superstar and American Idol icon Carrie Underwood takes the stage on October 4, 2025, Providence College’s Peterson Recreation Center will transform into a high-energy arena where music and basketball collide.

The seven-time Grammy winner is set to headline Late Night Madness, the Friars’ annual tip-off celebration that officially launches the men’s and women’s basketball seasons. Tickets sold out within hours after the August 28 announcement, fueling anticipation for what many are calling a “once-in-a-lifetime campus event.”

A Tradition Reimagined

Late Night Madness has long been a beloved Providence tradition, bringing together students, alumni, and fans for skits, performances, and team introductions. This year, the addition of Underwood raises the bar to unprecedented heights.

“Carrie Underwood is a global superstar whose music resonates with people of all ages,” said Athletic Director Steven Napalo. “Her presence at Late Night Madness is a reflection of the passion and pride of Friar Nation. It will be a night to remember.”

Music Meets Basketball

Doors open at 7 p.m., with festivities beginning at 8 p.m. Underwood is expected to deliver a 45-minute set, blending crowd favorites like “Before He Cheats” and “Southbound” with selections from her latest album, Denim & Rhinestones. Sources suggest she may even debut a new song live, adding to the excitement.

Her performance will be interwoven with the night’s basketball festivities, including the official introduction of the 2025–26 men’s team, led by head coach Kim English, and the women’s team, under coach Aaron Bath. Both squads will showcase their talents in fan-friendly competitions such as a slam dunk contest, three-point shootout, and a spirited scrimmage.

Additional entertainment will come from the Providence College cheerleaders, dance team, and mascot, while a jumbotron video tribute will highlight program milestones—most notably the men’s Sweet 16 run in 2022.

Why Carrie Underwood?

Landing Underwood as a headliner represents a major win for Providence. Since her 2005 American Idol victory, she has sold over 85 million records worldwide and become one of country music’s most recognizable voices. Known for powerhouse ballads like “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Something in the Water,” as well as high-energy anthems, Underwood is equally at home commanding stadium crowds and intimate venues.

By securing a star of her stature, Providence positions Late Night Madness as not just a pep rally but a premier entertainment event that unites students, alumni, and the broader Rhode Island community.

A Night for the Friar Nation

For current students, alumni returning to campus, and fans across the region, October 4 promises a celebration of school spirit, community, and music. With basketball season looming and one of country’s biggest stars ready to light up the stage, Providence’s Late Night Madness 2025 is shaping up to be an unforgettable start to the year.
