Sad News For Fans Of Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson, the legendary musician, continues to defy expectations at 91, releasing his 76th solo studio album, “Last Leaf on the Tree.” While many would have long since retired, Nelson remains deeply engaged in his passion for music. In a recent interview, he candidly discussed his thoughts on aging and mortality, especially after a health scare last summer that led to the cancellation of several tour dates.

In late June, a statement confirmed Nelson was unwell and needed rest, missing multiple shows. The statement read, “We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and per doctor’s orders has been advised to rest for the next 4 days. He’s expected to make a quick recovery and join the Outlaw Music Festival Tour next week.” His son, Lucas Nelson, and the family band, along with guests, stepped in to perform Willie’s classics. Despite the setback, Nelson made a swift return to the stage.

Having crafted music for seven decades, Nelson recently opened up to the Associated Press about life and death. He reflected on the passing of his longtime friend and country music icon, Kris Kristofferson, who died last month at 88. “He was a great songwriter,” Nelson shared. “He left a lot of fantastic songs around for the rest of us to sing for as long as we’re here. Chris was a great friend of mine and you know, we just kind of had a lot of fun together and made a lot of music together, videos, movies. I hated to lose him. That was a sad time.”

With his latest album delving into themes of love and death, Nelson also explored his own mortality. “Well, I’m 91 plus, so you know, I’m not worried about it,” he stated. “I don’t feel bad, I don’t hurt anywhere. I don’t have any reasons to worry about dying, but I don’t know anybody who’s lived forever. I take pretty good care of myself and I feel like I’m in pretty good shape physically, mentally, that’s another story.” When asked about his desired legacy, Nelson simply said, “I had a good time and I did what I came here to do, make music.”

Willie Nelson’s new album, “Last Leaf on the Tree,” is now available everywhere.
