Introduction
Eight years after the heartbreaking loss of his wife and musical partner, Joey, country singer Rory Feek has joyously remarried. In a heartwarming announcement on his blog, Rory shared the news of his marriage to Rebecca, his daughter Indiana’s schoolteacher, offering fans a glimpse into their rustic Montana wedding through a touching music video for his new song, “I Do,” written for his bride.
The couple exchanged vows on July 14th in Greycliff, Montana. This union comes after an eight-year journey for Rory following Joey’s passing at the young age of 40 after a courageous battle with cervical cancer. Together, Rory and Joey formed the beloved country duo Joey + Rory, and their daughter Indiana has been central to Rory’s world.
In a beautiful testament to their bond, it was Indiana herself who ultimately gave Rory and Rebecca the blessing they both longed for. Rory thoughtfully described how he and Rebecca initially navigated their burgeoning relationship discreetly, hoping Indiana would naturally come to understand their connection. He emphasized the importance of Indiana’s comfort and ensuring their relationship didn’t interfere with the precious memories of her mother.
“As I had written in my ‘love comes softly’ blog post in the spring, Rebecca and I had committed to be together, to choose each other and see where it might lead,” Rory shared. “And although we knew marriage was a possibility, it wasn’t something that either of us felt like we could seriously talk about… mostly because up until that time, Indiana only saw Rebecca as Miss Rebecca, her schoolteacher and our friend.”
Rory explained how he was careful to allow Indiana the space to understand the changing dynamics in her own time, uncertain if she ever would. Her deep love for her mother remained paramount, and neither Rory nor Rebecca wished to compromise that in any way. They patiently waited to see if Indiana might recognize Rebecca as more than just a friend to her father and to her.
Fate intervened one morning in late March. As Rebecca arrived at The Farmhouse to take Indiana to school, they shared a morning prayer, a familiar ritual. But moments after heading out, they returned with a surprising revelation. Rebecca recounted, “Rory, Indiana just asked me something that I think you need to hear.” Indiana then shared her heartfelt wish: “Miss Rebecca, I think you should marry Papa.”
Overjoyed but taken aback, Rory suggested they all needed to pray about it. Indiana’s response was even more poignant: “And I told Miss Rebecca that my mama’s been gone a long time, and if she marries you, maybe she could be my new mother.” Overwhelmed with emotion, Rory embraced the idea. Following further prayer and heartfelt conversations, they solidified their plans and set a wedding date.
During the ceremony, Rory surprised Rebecca with the tender song he had penned for her, “I Do.” He had kept the song a secret, even testing it out on an audience beforehand, ensuring its heartfelt message would be a beautiful surprise for his new wife.
This joyous occasion marks a new chapter for Rory and Indiana, eight years after the passing of the beloved Joey. Joey’s memory, and the beautiful music they created together, will undoubtedly remain a cherished part of their lives as they embrace this new love and family.
