Nashville, Tenn. – Singer-songwriter Rory Feek continues to inspire fans around the world with his heartfelt country music, his writing, and his devotion to family life on his Tennessee farm.
Born April 25, 1965, in Atchison, Kansas, Feek grew up surrounded by the sounds of classic country legends like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. After moving to Nashville in the mid-1990s, he earned recognition as a songwriter when “Someone You Used to Know,” recorded by Collin Raye, became a hit in 1999. He followed with other successes, including “The Chain of Love” for Clay Walker and Blake Shelton’s chart-topper “Some Beach.”
In 2002, Feek married fellow musician Joey Martin. Their partnership blossomed into the celebrated duo Joey + Rory, whose traditional sound and heartfelt storytelling won national attention after their appearance on CMT’s Can You Duet in 2008. Their debut album The Life of a Song and subsequent releases earned critical praise and a devoted fan base.
The couple welcomed their daughter Indiana in 2014. Born with Down syndrome, “Indy,” as family and fans affectionately call her, became a source of joy and a symbol of love and acceptance.
Tragedy struck later that year when Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer. She passed away in 2016, a loss Rory has described as both heartbreaking and transformative. Since then, he has continued raising Indiana and honoring Joey’s memory through music, writing, and speaking engagements. His 2018 album The Singer and the Song stands as a moving tribute to their life together.
More recently, Feek has shared that he is undergoing treatment for basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer. He uses his platform to encourage regular skin checks and sun protection, while remaining active in music and family life.
