The world of wrestling and entertainment is in mourning today as news broke that Hulk Hogan, one of the most iconic figures in WWE history, has passed away at the age of 71. Hogan, born Terry Bollea, died on July 24th, surrounded by loved ones, according to his longtime manager, Chris Vololo, who confirmed the news to NBC LA.
Tributes began pouring in almost immediately across social media platforms. One of the first to share his heartbreak was actor Sylvester Stallone, who famously worked alongside Hogan in Rocky III. Posting a nostalgic photo of the two, Stallone wrote: “I met Hulk when he was just 26. He had this rare energy that lit up every room—and every ring. He made ‘Rocky III’ unforgettable. My heart is heavy.”
WWE superstar John Cena also honored the late legend with a touching throwback photo, simply captioned, “Thank you for everything, Hulk. A hero in and out of the ring.”
The city of Clearwater, Florida, where Hogan resided in his later years, confirmed in an official statement that emergency services responded to a cardiac arrest call at his home. Despite efforts from fire and rescue teams, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Hulk Hogan rose to fame in the 1980s, captivating fans with his unmatched charisma, signature moves, and iconic “Hulkamania” persona. He held the World Heavyweight Championship six times and became a cultural phenomenon far beyond the wrestling ring. Longtime fans will also remember his early movie role as “Thunderlips” in Rocky III, a performance that helped launch his Hollywood crossover appeal.
A native of West Central Florida, Hogan remained close to his roots throughout his life. He is survived by his wife Sky Hogan and two children, Brooke and Nick, from his previous marriage to Linda Hogan.
As millions remember the larger-than-life superstar, one thing is certain: Hulk Hogan’s legacy will continue to inspire generations of fans.
