Riley Keough to Share Rare Glimpse of Graceland During Elvis Presley’s Funeral

Nearly five decades after the world said goodbye to Elvis Presley, his granddaughter, actress Riley Keough, is preparing to share something deeply personal: a rare look inside Graceland on the day of the King’s funeral.

Elvis passed away on August 16, 1977, at his beloved Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee. While the public mourned outside the iconic gates, the Presley family held a private and emotionally charged farewell inside the mansion—an experience that, until now, remained largely undocumented.

In a new documentary project currently in development, Riley Keough—who was born over a decade after her grandfather’s death—is piecing together never-before-seen footage, photographs, and personal accounts to offer fans a respectful yet revealing view of one of the most emotional days in music history.

“This isn’t about spectacle,” Riley said in a recent interview. “It’s about honoring the way our family said goodbye to someone we loved deeply. I’ve always been curious about that day, not as a celebrity moment, but as a human moment.”

The project will include reflections from family members, longtime staff, and even a few close friends of Elvis who were inside Graceland during the funeral. According to Riley, one of the most moving discoveries was a private room filled with floral tributes and handwritten letters sent from fans across the world—many of which remain archived and untouched to this day.

Photos from that day show a solemn, candle-lit Graceland, with black drapes covering mirrors and rooms filled with flowers. But Riley says the real story lies in the quiet, sacred energy that filled the house.

“Graceland wasn’t just a home that day—it became a temple of remembrance,” she shared.

The documentary is expected to premiere on a major streaming platform next year, and Elvis fans are already expressing gratitude for what promises to be a touching tribute—not just to a legend, but to the family and place that loved him most.
