Dolly Parton Mourns the Loss of Her Beloved Brother David Parton at 82
Country music icon Dolly Parton is once again facing heartbreak, as she and her family mourn the passing of her older brother, David Parton. He passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 82 on November 15, 2024. The news has sent a wave of sadness through the Parton family and Dolly’s devoted fan base.
David Parton, a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired bridge builder, played an integral role in constructing many of the bridges across Kingsport, Johnson City, and Knoxville. He was known not only for his craftsmanship but for his quiet strength and dedication to his family.
His sister Stella Parton confirmed the news with a touching statement: “My wonderful brother David passed in the early hours of the morning. It’s never easy to lose a loved one, but he got his angel wings and is now at peace.” She also posted a heartfelt tribute on social media, reminding fans of the family’s deep-rooted faith.
David’s death follows a series of heartbreaking losses for the Parton family. Dolly’s brother Randy passed away in 2021 at age 67 after a battle with cancer. Prior to that, brother Floyd died in 2018. In past interviews, Dolly expressed her grief but also her faith, stating that her family takes comfort knowing their loved ones are safe with God.
David leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and faith. In his obituary, special thanks were given to his caregivers and the hospice team who helped him in his final days. He was preceded in death by several family members, including his infant son Donnie and brothers Randy, Floyd, and Larry.
Despite her sorrow, Dolly, now 78, remains committed to her music and her fans. Recently addressing rumors about retirement, she clarified, “I still do shows, I just don’t go on full-blown tours anymore. I want to be home more with my husband.”
Our deepest condolences go out to Dolly Parton and her family as they navigate this difficult loss. May David Parton rest in peace.
