Elvis Presley: The Mysteries Behind a Death That Shocked the World
When Elvis Presley — the King of Rock and Roll — suddenly passed away in 1977 at the age of 42, the world was stunned. But what really happened on that fateful day? Did he truly die of a simple heart attack, as reported? And why has his autopsy report been sealed for five decades?
Elvis was more than just a performer — he was a cultural icon, a living legend in the hearts of millions of fans. As such, the mystery surrounding his death has long been the subject of speculation. According to the official account, Elvis died in the bathroom of his famed Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee.
A publicly available two-page medical examiner’s report was completed two months after his death by Dr. Jerry Francisco. It includes Elvis’s full name — Elvis Aron Presley — and his address at 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard. Strangely, several crucial details such as his weight, height, body temperature, and exact time of death were left blank — fueling even more suspicion.
In his final years, Elvis was said to have gained significant weight — some sources suggest up to 350 pounds. There are theories that he suffered from severe constipation, requiring daily laxatives and enemas, and possibly had a condition called “megacolon” — an abnormally enlarged colon filled with impacted material.
The report lists the cause of death as “natural,” specifically “hypertensive cardiovascular disease associated with arteriosclerotic heart disease.” However, additional details point to rigor mortis and postmortem blood pooling (livor mortis), suggesting Elvis may have been dead for hours before being found.
It was his girlfriend at the time, Ginger Alden, who discovered him. Though the report states he was found on the floor of the dressing room, it is now widely accepted that he was discovered in the bathroom of the master bedroom. His time of death was recorded as 3:30 PM, and he was declared dead on arrival at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
One of the most controversial aspects of the case is that Elvis’s father, Vernon Presley, ordered the full autopsy results to be sealed. These files are scheduled to be made public in 2027. What truths might lie within those pages? Is there more to the King’s passing than the world has been led to believe?
