Introduction
Country singer Rory Feek is publicly refuting claims made by his eldest daughter, Heidi, who alleges that her 10-year-old half-sister, Indiana, is unsafe and that Rory has cut off communication between them. This development follows Rory’s marriage to Indiana’s teacher in July, eight years after the passing of his first wife and musical partner, Joey Feek.
In a recent interview with People, Heidi Feek disclosed that she and her sister, Hopi, are considering legal action against their father. They contend that he has ceased communication and placed Indiana in a potentially dangerous environment. Heidi stated that for most of Indiana’s life, the young girl would visit them monthly in Alabama, forging a strong bond, particularly with Indiana, who has special needs. Indiana was even a flower girl at Hopi’s 2018 wedding and frequently featured on Heidi’s Instagram.
However, according to Heidi, about three years ago, their ability to FaceTime with Indiana was abruptly stopped. While Rory initially attributed this to Indiana switching to a flip phone, Heidi says that eventually, overnight visits to Alabama were canceled without explanation, and visits became infrequent. She claims that her texts go unanswered, and she and Hopi are no longer allowed to speak to Indiana on the phone.
Rory addressed these allegations in a blog post titled “love Dad,” stating that Heidi’s claims have “broken my heart” and that Indiana “has never been more loved or better cared for than she is right now.” He acknowledged that Indiana misses her sisters and asks about them but asserted that while she is free to communicate with Heidi and Hopi, overnight stays are no longer permitted because they “refused to respect my wishes” during those visits.
Rory suggested that the core of the conflict lies in differing views on entertainment and what Indiana should be exposed to. He emphasized his commitment to raising Indiana with the values and principles that are important to him and what he believes Joey would have wanted.
Heidi has also raised concerns about Indiana’s safety, citing an incident where she allegedly wandered into traffic unsupervised. Heidi claims Rory exploited this traumatic event for public image instead of addressing the danger. Rory did mention the incident in a magazine article, expressing relief at Indiana’s safe return.
Adding another layer to the dispute are Heidi’s worries about Indiana being left in the care of a group called Homestead Heritage, an “agrarian and craft-based intentional Christian Community.” Heidi referenced a 2012 report in the Texas Observer detailing years of alleged abuse within the community, including child sex assault. Homestead Heritage has dismissed these reports as slanderous, asserting that they have always exposed and reported any instances of abuse they encountered. Rory defended Homestead Heritage, stating he has only had positive interactions with them and refuting the notion that it is a cult. He explained that Indiana stayed with two families from the community during his honeymoon and had a pleasant experience.
Heidi draws parallels between the current situation and her childhood trauma, claiming that she and Hopi were falsely told their mother didn’t want them in her life. She says reconnecting with her birth mother revealed this was untrue, and she fears history repeating itself with her access to Indiana.
Rory countered Heidi’s account, acknowledging the difficulties his older daughters faced growing up without their mother but suggesting their birth mother has presented a different version of events. He expressed hope that one day he will have the opportunity to share his perspective on the 20 years he raised them alone.
In response to Rory’s blog post, Heidi shared an open letter expressing relief at hearing from him after months of silence. She stated, “Love is not words it is Deeds,” and offered a “pardon” for his hurtful remarks, while also calling him out for labeling them as cowards.
Rory also revealed that Child Protective Services had visited his home earlier in the year following allegations, which he claims escalated to Heidi and Hopi taping conversations with Indiana. He asserted that Heidi was not acting in Indiana’s best interest but seeking revenge.
While it remains unclear if Heidi has initiated legal action, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support Hopi’s legal representation, emphasizing the emotional and financial toll of the situation and stating they would only pursue legal means if absolutely necessary to protect Indiana. Heidi expressed her love and concern for Indiana, vowing to always stand up for her well-being.
