American Idol winner Scotty McCreary is stepping back from his music career, but the reason behind his decision is heartwarming. The country star revealed that he wants to be fully present for a major milestone at home—welcoming his second child.
Speaking to The Express, McCreary confirmed that he plans to return home immediately after performing at the Extad Festival in Switzerland this September. “I’m getting home as soon as possible because my wife’s due for our second child after that,” he explained on August 21, 2025.
A Growing Family
McCreary first announced the pregnancy in May 2025, sharing the happy news on Instagram. The post featured a sweet family photo with his wife and their toddler son, Merrick Avery, who sported a “Big Brother” sweatshirt. “A new best friend coming this fall,” the caption read. The post quickly racked up more than 87,000 likes, with fans and fellow country artists— including Lauren Alaina—flooding the comments with congratulations.
Double the Joy
The couple later revealed they are expecting another baby boy. McCreary joked about the lively future ahead: “It’s going to be double trouble running around the house now. But it’s all great things. We’re excited.”
According to McCreary, little Merrick already can’t wait to meet his brother. “He’s always patting mommy’s belly and saying, ‘Hey.’ So, I think he’s going to be a great big brother,” the singer said.
