He warmly supported Underwood at the 2025 finale of American Idol, and the couple also walked the red carpet together at the Grand Ole Opry’s 100th celebration just two months prior.
Their romance initially began thanks to Underwood’s bass player, Mark Childers, who knew the hockey player through a mutual friend. Fisher originally wanted to meet Carrie backstage at the Opri, but Childers was protective. “I didn’t allow it,” Childers later recalled on the Howard Stern Show. “I was like, I don’t know who he is.” However, after Fisher spent a year trying to secure an introduction, Childers finally set up a meeting at one of Underwood’s concert meet-and-greets in October 2008.
The couple talked on the phone for three months before their official first date. “It kind of laid some foundation,” Underwood explained, revealing that their first date happened on New Year’s Eve at a team party. “I invited myself to the team party. He moves slow,” she joked. That memorable night also marked their very first kiss.
Weathering the Storms Together
Today, Underwood and Fisher are proud parents to two sons: Isaiah, born in February 2015, and Jacob, born in January 2019. However, their path to expanding their family was filled with heartbreak. Before conceiving Jacob, Underwood tragically experienced three miscarriages.
Opening up about the painful losses on CBS Sunday Morning, Underwood shared how she felt afraid to be angry because of how blessed her life already was. At one point, she feared she was miscarrying Jacob as well, but a doctor’s appointment thankfully confirmed the pregnancy was healthy.
Looking ahead, the couple remains open to whatever the future holds. Underwood has noted that she prefers living in the moment rather than over-planning, though she previously mentioned that she and Fisher have discussed the possibility of adoption once their children are a bit older.
