Grammy-winning country star Travis Tritt was involved in a fatal car crash early Saturday morning after a drunk driver traveled the wrong way on a South Carolina highway, leaving two people dead.
Tritt was riding on his tour bus when the collision occurred just before 3 a.m. The country singer had performed hours earlier and was traveling with his team when the vehicles collided ahead of them.
According to reports, a Jeep driving the wrong way struck a pickup truck directly in front of Tritt’s bus. The driver of the Jeep and a passenger in the truck were both killed on impact. Tritt’s tour bus, which was sideswiped during the crash, sustained only minor damage, and no one on board was injured.
TMZ confirmed the sequence of events, noting that the drunk driver caused the crash that claimed two lives.
Tritt later shared images of the wreckage on social media, expressing heartbreak over the tragedy and gratitude that his crew was unharmed. He emphasized how shaken he was by what he witnessed and urged fans to never drive under the influence.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the deadly accident.
