Ella Langley, Megan Moroney, and Lainey Wilson Lead 2025 CMA Nominations, Signaling New Era for Female Country Stars

By Marcus K. Dowling – Nashville Tennessean

The Country Music Association’s 2025 award nominations unveiled a generational shift in Nashville, spotlighting three women who have rapidly ascended to the top of the genre. Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley, and Megan Moroney each earned six nominations, tying for the most across all categories.

For Wilson, the moment affirms her momentum since her breakout in 2022, while Langley and Moroney’s inclusion underscores a new wave of female power in a landscape long dominated by male voices.

“Seeing three women standing together at the top of the list feels historic,” Wilson said following the announcement. “We’ve all been working for years to make sure our stories resonate, and I think country fans are letting us know they’re ready for them.”

Breaking Through a Male-Dominated Chart

The nominations arrive in a field where acts like Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen continue to set records, combining for nearly 40 Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 singles. Yet, the CMA’s recognition signals the industry’s appetite for broader representation.

Langley, who first drew widespread attention in 2024 with her duet “You Look Like You Love Me” alongside Riley Green, credited her nomination to “hard work and a little faith.” She added, “The door feels like it’s open wider than ever for women, and I want to be one of the artists pushing it forward.”

Moroney, meanwhile, reflected on the support she’s felt from fans who connected with her honest songwriting. “Every time someone tells me a song helped them through something, it reminds me why I started,” she said. “These nominations aren’t just mine—they belong to the fans.”

A Trio Defining the Future

Together, Wilson, Langley, and Moroney represent both the roots and evolution of modern country. They blend traditional storytelling with contemporary production, reaching audiences far beyond Nashville.

“This isn’t just a moment—it’s a movement,” Wilson emphasized. “Country music is big enough for all of us, and I think the CMA nominations show that the future is wide open.”

The 2025 CMA Awards will broadcast live from Nashville this November, with the possibility that one of these three trailblazing women could take home the night’s top honor: Entertainer of the Year.
