Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, dead at 48 after melanoma battle

TRAGIC NEWS SHOCKS THE COUNTRY MUSIC WORLD – KELLY CLARKSON’S EX-HUSBAND PASSES AWAY AT 48

Just one day after Kelly Clarkson abruptly canceled all remaining dates of her Las Vegas residency, citing a “private family health crisis,” the heartbreaking truth has been revealed: her ex-husband and former manager, Brandon Blackstock, has died at the age of 48.

The news was confirmed in an official statement from the Blackstock family, which disclosed that he had been battling cancer for more than three years—a struggle kept entirely out of the public eye. Prior to this revelation, Clarkson’s show cancellations had sparked concern among fans. On Instagram, she wrote: “I usually keep my personal life private, but this past year, my children’s father has been ill. Right now, I need to be fully present for them. I sincerely apologize to everyone who purchased tickets, and I deeply appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding.”

Brandon Blackstock and Kelly Clarkson married in 2013 and shared two children. Brandon was the son of Narvel Blackstock—Clarkson’s former manager—and the former stepson of country music legend Reba McEntire. He was also a talent manager for several major artists, including Blake Shelton.

However, their marriage ended in 2020, leading to a long and contentious divorce battle involving disputes over child custody, assets—most notably their Montana ranch—and commissions from the time he managed Clarkson. These legal disputes continued even after their divorce was finalized in 2022.

Clarkson’s 2023 album Chemistry was widely interpreted as an emotional processing of the heartbreak and complexity of their relationship. Now, learning that Brandon had been quietly fighting a serious illness during the same period adds a painful new layer to their story.

Today, Kelly Clarkson faces an immense loss—the passing of a man who was once a pivotal part of both her personal and professional life. Fans fully understand her need to step away from the stage for now, focusing instead on being with her children during this profoundly difficult time.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Brandon Blackstock, as well as to Kelly Clarkson and their children.
