Toby Keith's Daughter Shares Memories of Her Late Father

On August 28 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, NBC will air a special program titled Toby Keith: American Icon, honoring the life and legacy of the legendary country singer Toby Keith, who passed away on February 5, 2024, at the age of 62 after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. One of the most touching moments of the program will be a heartfelt performance by his daughter, Crystal Keith, as a tribute to the father she deeply loved.

Shortly after her father’s passing, Crystal shared her grief, saying, “I am shattered. As incredible as he was in his career, he was even more amazing as a dad, a husband, and a pop-pop. He was my hero. I’m so thankful he walked me down the aisle and got to meet my children. We made so many memories traveling and performing together as a family. I have a treasure trove of videos and music to keep his memory alive.” She added, “He lived humbly, always doing good without seeking attention.”

At the tribute event, Crystal will perform the song “Don’t Let the Old Man In,” a performance that moved many to tears. She also shared a special memory not widely known: in 2013, she released her debut album Whiskey and Lace, which was produced by Toby Keith himself, who also made a cameo appearance. For Crystal, the album remains one of her most cherished possessions — a musical memory that captures the unique bond between father and daughter.

Toby Keith: American Icon will also feature appearances by many notable artists including Lainey Wilson, Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and others. NFL legend Brett Favre also paid tribute to his late friend, writing, “Toby Keith was one of a kind. He worked incredibly hard and always had a great time. You never know when your time will come, so make sure to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you.”

Be sure to tune in and join millions in honoring a true icon of American music.
