Scotty McCreery Reveals Both His Grandmothers Died Hours Apart in Heartbreaking Double Loss

Country music star Scotty McCreery is experiencing immense heartache, announcing the passing of both his maternal and paternal grandmothers on Wednesday, July 9. The singer shared the devastating news on social media, posting a poignant photo of his grandmothers, Janet and Paquita, alongside him and his wife, Gabi, on their wedding day.

“My heart is absolutely broken,” McCreery wrote, expressing his shock and grief. He chose to focus on the “great memories” he shared with both women, reflecting on countless cherished moments. He recalled spending time on the farm and visiting the Outer Banks with Grandma Janet, and making “incredible memories” at the backyard pool and visiting Puerto Rico with Grandma Paquita. McCreery emphasized the profound impact they had on his life, stating, “Both of them truly taught me what love is all about. I will miss them dearly.” He concluded by asking for prayers for his family.

Scotty’s mother, Judy McCreery, also shared details of the difficult day. Her mother, Janet, passed away at 85 after battling norovirus and the flu, which led to dehydration and pneumonia. “I have to accept it was her time,” Judy wrote. Tragically, just a few hours later, Scotty’s paternal grandmother, Paquita, passed away at 93 after a period of declining health.

McCreery is known for his deep family roots and close relationships, especially with his grandparents. He is now raising his own children, Avery and a second on the way, with his wife Gabi, instilling the same family values he was raised with. His bond with his grandfathers was famously highlighted in his hit song “Five More Minutes,” a heartfelt plea for more time with a loved one. The song’s powerful message has resonated with millions, with its music video accumulating over 159 million views.
