Beach Boys' Mike Love Opens Up About Final 'Fun' Moments With Brian Wilson

Mike Love Pays Tribute to Brian Wilson and Beach Boys Legacy at Songwriters Hall of Fame Ceremony

In an emotional and celebratory moment, Beach Boys co-founder Mike Love was recently inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a long-awaited honor recognizing his remarkable contributions to the soundtrack of American life. Standing on the red carpet, Love expressed his gratitude with a heartfelt message: “I accept this honor with a full heart of gratitude, love, and peace.”

For decades, Mike Love’s lyrics helped define the unmistakable sound of the Beach Boys—sun-soaked harmonies, timeless melodies, and reflections of youth, love, and freedom. Now, with his formal recognition by the Songwriters Hall of Fame, he joins an elite group of music legends whose words have stood the test of time.

“This means the world to me,” Love shared during the ceremony. “To finally have my contributions to the Beach Boys’ music acknowledged like this is a tremendous honor. It’s something I’ll cherish forever.”

Love noted how the band’s music continues to unite generations. “When we perform, we see families—little kids dancing next to their grandparents—all singing along. That kind of legacy is incredibly special.”

Actor and longtime Beach Boys collaborator John Stamos had the honor of inducting Love, a gesture that deeply moved him. “It’s awesome to have John do this. He’s been such a great supporter of the band and its message.”

Love also reflected on the enduring presence of Brian Wilson in the music. “Brian is in every note of those songs—Good Vibrations, Fun Fun Fun—his spirit is in the sound. You can’t separate Brian from the music.”

He revealed he visited Wilson just weeks before his passing. “We sang together—Fun, Fun, Fun, and a few more. Even in those quiet moments, we found harmony.”

As Mike Love continues to tour and share the Beach Boys’ legacy, his message is clear: the music lives on. And through it, so does Brian.
