Introduction
Country music star and former American Idol winner Scotty McCreery is mourning the loss of both of his grandmothers, who passed away within hours of each other on Wednesday, July 9.
McCreery shared the heartbreaking news with an emotional post on his Instagram on Thursday, July 10. “My heart is absolutely broken,” he wrote alongside a photo of him with his grandmothers at his wedding. “Yesterday, both my Grandma Janet and my Grandma Paquita passed away.”
The singer reflected on the cherished memories he shared with each of them, from spending time on his Grandma Janet’s farm to visiting Puerto Rico with his Grandma Paquita. “Both of them truly taught me what love is all about. I will miss them dearly,” he wrote, asking fans to keep his family in their prayers.
McCreery’s mother, Judy, had initially shared the news on her Facebook page, revealing that her mother, Janet, died from complications of norovirus and the flu, while her mother-in-law, Paquita, passed away just a few hours later due to declining health.
McCreery rose to fame after winning the tenth season of American Idol in 2011. He went on to release his debut album, Clear as Day, which was certified platinum and featured hits like “I Love You This Big.” He has released five more albums since, including his most recent, Rise & Fall.
